THE CONDITION OF OUR HEARTS

THERE'S OUR WAYS, THEN THERE'S GOD'S WAYS

Most of us, if not all of us, have strongly held beliefs. They always become evident during our seasons of presidential elections.  Many of us are very vocal and express our beliefs openly and then debate ensues when people disagree with certain beliefs.  There are some issues where someone's beliefs are right and another's beliefs are wrong.  Often, the opposing sides cannot come to agreement, and there can be no compromise.  In reality, someone is right and someone is wrong, and neither side can convince the other.  So, a question is . . . .

How do we know when we are right or wrong?

Maybe that's a question not to be answered first.  Maybe the first question to ask is,

"What is each and everyone capable of?"

There's an Old Testament verse that should jolt us and wake us to the reality of our human nature.  Jeremiah 17:9 - - -

“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked;  Who can know it?"

Do any of us think we are or can be WICKED?  WICKED - a word we do not use in regards to ourselves.  But God uses that word to tell humanity something about ourselves that we do not want to hear.

The verse says,

"Who can know it?"

The answer to that is,

"God knows it.  God knows the condition of our hearts."

GOD knows our deceitful and desperately wicked hearts.

GOD knows what needs to be done about it.

GOD knows we need a change of heart.

GOD knows that the only way to change our hearts is to TURN from our ways to His ways.

Romans 10:9-10 - - -

"that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and BELIEVE IN YOUR HEART that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the HEART a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the MOUTH he confesses, resulting in salvation."

That which is in the HEART will come out of the MOUTH.  So, what's coming out of our mouths?

Now, back to our initial question.

How do we know when we are right or wrong?

 The better question might be,

How do we know we need a Savior, the Savior, Jesus Christ, the son of the Living God?"

The answer is,

God tells us.  But, are we willing to listen and believe Him?

WICKED?  WHO, ME?  NO WAY.  No one is exempt from needing the Savior of the world.  Man's heart needs to be changed.  When the heart changes, then the person changes.

Father, draw us to Your Son so we can have a change of heart.
