Peace of Mind
Music from my younger years is ingrained in me. Some good. Some not so good. I like to recall the good ones. Here is a song from a group called "The Magnificent Men" who were from my hometown of Harrisburg, PA in the 1960s, and made it somewhat big on the music scene. It's called "Peace of Mind." A great and unforgettable sound with a good message.
I once heard a preacher (Andrew Shearman) say that he would take a modern song and apply it to his life. Might be a love song to sing to his wife. I think the artist referred to was Rod Stewart and love song might have been "Have I Told You Lately." This preacher, as a Christian, did not automatically discount secular songs, but he found a truthful message where one could be found.
Well the lyrics of "Peace of Mind", which is linked below, remind me of what Paul talks about in scripture. He suffered all kinds of things as the man in this song mentions of himself. But Paul pressed on to the "high mark of the calling of Christ". Paul's "peace of mind" was having the "mind of Christ". Paul counted it all joy in whatever circumstance he was in. This song talks about the suffering of a man, but he strives to make it to the top no matter what, doing without in everything but never stopping, and being glad in it all and finding peace of mind.
The man in the song says he will find peace of mind and bring it on home. And that's what Paul does for us. He brings it to us in his words of truth.
Give this song a listen and see if it helps solidify Paul's words in your mind and heart. Find "Peace of Mind" in God's way. And might we consider ourselves to be God's Magnificent Men in some truthful way as we "press on to the high mark of the calling of Christ"? One day, we will be in His Magnificent Glory.
This is something I needed today to help get out of a slump.
